Protopia Studio
Regenerative Design
Challenge:
How can a place be created that facilitates both consciousness growth and nature restoration, and where people live together in harmony with their environment? Based on this question, we developed a visionary concept for a holistic educational center in the Netherlands. We wanted to imagine a place that is more than a retreat center: a place where personal transformation, connection to nature, and collective healing converge.
Our role:
Protopia Studio designed the Taralena Center as an integrated learning and living environment, focusing on consciousness development as a response to ecological and societal challenges. It is inspired by philosopher Ken Wilber's Integral Theory and incorporates Sacred Geometry.
Impact / result:
The Taralena Center demonstrates what a future-proof, regenerative center can look like, connecting education, nature restoration, and community life. The center is designed around three pillars:
Education – an environment that facilitates spiritual awakening and personal development.
Nature restoration – regenerative principles such as reforestation, circular construction, and rewilding of former agricultural land.
Community – a community that learns, lives, and cares together, with a food forest, ecological construction, and an inclusive social structure.
While the project isn't aimed at immediate implementation, it offers a powerful vision for the future and a source of inspiration for initiatives seeking a new balance between humanity and nature. The design illustrates how systemic thinking, regenerative architecture, and holistic programs can combine to create a new social infrastructure.
