Concept & Design

Challenge:

The initiator wanted to establish a safe and transformative center where local and international women could gather for tantra, yoga, and education. The context is complex: a postcolonial society with inequalities, combined with the rapid growth of tourism. The center had to address both social inequality and ecological regeneration.

Our role:

Protopia Studio designed the initial concept sketches in close collaboration with the project developer. The concept includes a temple space for 50 people, nine cabins, an open-air restaurant, and supporting facilities. The concept combines sacred geometry and Vastu Shastra with eco-building and permaculture. We also advised on the approach and land acquisition.

Impact / result:

The vision clarifies how regenerative architecture and social programming can reinforce each other. The Temple of Tārā demonstrates how a retreat center can serve as a bridge between local and global, both strengthening communities and offering international visitors a deeper connection to the land and culture. The project connects spiritual development, women's empowerment, and regenerative principles in a holistic living and learning environment, thus providing a concrete example of how architecture and programming can contribute to both social and ecological transformation.
