In a design sprint with the City of Amsterdam, Protopia Studio developed the Broad Prosperity Scan: a tool for assessing the effects of policy proposals across ten themes of broad prosperity, both in the here and now and in the future.
Amsterdam wants broad prosperity to be structurally considered in all decision-making: wellbeing, health, social cohesion, ecology and the economy. The challenge: how do you develop a practical instrument that makes this way of thinking accessible and useful for policymakers?
Protopia Studio facilitated a design sprint with civil servants and policymakers. In a short period of time, we worked on a prototype of the Broad Prosperity Scan, making the effects of policy proposals visible across ten dimensions.
The Broad Prosperity Scan is now a tool that helps the municipal executive and council make more integrated decisions. It supports broader thinking in policy development and reveals ways for policy to contribute more strongly to the wellbeing of all Amsterdammers.
